I‘m a software engineer that has been writing code, and being a jack-of-all-trades, for almost 35 years. I’ve transitioned into other aspects of technology that now include AI/ML and robotics. I have a long varied history in the field of technology.
My experience started out long ago (1991) with the Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA), a Test Systems department at an aerospace company (though I didn’t get to write software for these embedded systems), a DoD contractor doing work for the Pentagon, as a MIS developer at a software company, a consulting company working on some great projects — at Nasdaq, NASD/R (now FINRA), NIH, PBS, ADP, and a commercial office/property management, my own consulting in healthcare and at NOAA, a couple more consulting companies, a healthcare provider in the Workers’ Comp space, more of my own consulting, a large healthcare provider, and another healthcare provider in the Workers’ Comp space.
After all that, I decided it was time to focus on the areas that I was consistently passionate about and find very important to my worldview. As much as I have enjoyed being in the technology space and being involved in every aspect of software and systems/network management, the truly exciting part is learning how these varying business sectors operate. There’s a lifetime of understanding and information to be gleaned. And now robotics and AI bring an entirely new level of understanding required for so many business sectors.
My goal in all that I do is focusing on how to provide the best solutions which provide the best support and assistance to the target audience. This has been especially true in the healthcare space as I’ve always felt that failing to do so compromises patient outcomes and, if you’ve ever been a patient with a serious health issue, you can easily understand what that means in your life.
My goal moving forward in my life and career is to create and develop solutions that provide the most impact to those with the greatest need. To some degree, it’s all of us in so many areas of life. To start, I’m focusing on areas where the need is increasing every year, if not every month, as we see more and more extreme weather and the news coming out of scientific research appears to be more dire than we’d hoped. I have said for some time that we’ve already missed the point of turning back and the data suggests that is more true every day.
Because of this, my focus is on solutions that prevent but also mitigate the eventual crises that will happen. Hopefully this journey in robotics and AI will see many, many others working towards those same goals, especially in ways I could not imagine. There are so many people out there with vary ideas and viewpoints that I’m sure there are areas of focus and solutions my mind has yet to imagine and I’m excited to see these new ideas play out in the world.
